Palestine activists disrupt Offer Holders’ Day
Protestors disrupted multiple lectures for University of Glasgow offer holders
Glasgow University Justice for Palestine Society (GUJPS) took to Instagram to share videos of masked activists disrupting two separate lectures for prospective University of Glasgow students.
Activists disrupted a talk for Aeronautical Engineering offer holders, telling audience members, “over 12,000 students [in Palestine] have been killed. Nothing differentiates you from them. Every single university in Gaza has been bombed… and you don’t care; shame on you.”
One audience member responded; “I don’t need to be lectured about Palestine.” Another said; “Let us see your faces.”
Protestors then interrupted a talk for Finance offers holders in the Charles Wilson, a building which has been central to the movement this semester. Masked activists chanted; “free Palestine” and “stop the genocide” as they attempted to hand leaflets to audience members.
GUJPS shared a video of a security member telling protestors that the University has “zero tolerance” for the disruption.
Hillhead Review understands that security escorted the protestors from campus, although no disciplinary action has been taken thus far.
This comes after GUJPS promised that “divestment is inevitable,” promising that they would “never rest.”
The University told Hillhead Review: ”The University of Glasgow upholds the right to freedom of expression, including the right of staff and students to engage in peaceful demonstrations. However, we do not tolerate activities which interfere with the rights of others to go about their business in peace.
"As an institution we stand against hate or harassment of any kind. We regularly communicate with all our staff and students about the need for tolerance towards each other, and we reiterate this call for all members of our community to be respectful to each other at all times.”.
